AHHHHHH power window problem AGAIN!!!

I used to feel like a genius, now I am just annoyed. I will go over the entire story again. Fuse 1 on my 86 carrera kept popping. I unplugged the connections located between the door and rest of the car on each side.(I am sure Germans have the smallest hands on the planet.) Replaced the fuse. Plugged in the passenger side-fuse okay. Plugged in drivers side- fuse popped. So I figure the problem is on the drivers side. I remove the door panel. Connect a 12V battery to the power window motor to make sure it works-it does. I find a couple of the rubber on the terminal plugs to the window switch to be a bit worn, so I use some electrical tape. Replace one window switch since one of the terminals comes right out. Replace the fuse. Everything works. This is the point at which I felt like a genius. Obviously it doen'nt take much.
I put the panel back on. Fuse pops the next time I turn the car on.
I started over all again. This time I disconnected the plug between the door and car on the drivers side. I turned the car on and checked the voltage at the fuse, just like the Bentley manual says to do. There is voltage present. So now I figure I have a short between the fuse box and the plug between the door and car. Should I just visually inspect the wires from the fuse box on? I am not sure how to narrow this down. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

Hey Mike,
I'll be around Sunday if you would like to bring it over and see if we can figure it out. I am not an electrical genius but two heads are better than one.
