Driver's side Power Window Regulator Pivot Spring- correct orientation? (see picture)

My pivot spring retainer was MIA (driver's side window regulator) on my 83 SC, so I fashioned one using a t-bolt, a machine screw and a couple of square nuts (see attached picture). Question - do I have the pivot spring oriented correctly (it was discovered laying in the bottom of the door), so that it's going to be HELPING the window motor upon reassembly - and not working against it?

The way I have it placed was the only way that made sense, but then again, I'm not an engineer.

Thanks for any input.

regards,
Hans

I went through the same problem when I replaced my broken pivot pins in my manual windows. I decided that the function of the spring is to help raise the window... that means that the spring needs to have the least tension when the window is raised and the most when it is at it's lowered point. It should always be under some amount of tension.

Look how it raises and lowers and then figure out the orientation. As best I recall, I needed to tighten the spring about 1/4-1/3 of a turn at the most relaxed setting to get it to operate properly and seat on the spring retainer.

Harry - thanks for the advice - it helped me to figure it out the pivot spring orientation (the way I show it in the picture is the way I left it). The door has been re-assembled and all relevant parts were lubricated with lithium grease. Seems to be working fine. Glad I made a wiring diagram of the power window switch connections and of the motor wiring - I would have been clueless had I not done that.

Thanks again.

How do you get tension on the pivot spring

Hi

I have just replaced my pivot pin - it was a 26 mm on my 1976 ROW 911.

Once the spring is resting in the pivot pin slot, how do you get tension on the spring, to work the spring hook to the regulator ?

Andrew
