Parts Found and an Oil Leak during Valve Adjustment
Here's one for everyone that has bought a car from a PO that didn't do his own maintenance, or was very careless.
I performed my first valve adjustment Saturday. The total job took me about ten hours because the inside of engine compartment was covered by a thick greasy/oil residue that had to collected over the years. I spent about five hours just cleaning the engine compartment and another hour and a half cleaning valve covers. Very painful, but at least I know the condition of my engine, which I'm now very happy with. I found a few parts in the muck. Here's the picture of them: The four parts on the right are from a previous valve adjustment and the parts on the left I have no idea where they came from. I've kept them all since I'm sure they weren't replaced after they were dropped/left. Does anyone have any idea where they might go. The engine is a ('85 or '86) 3.2L retrofit. I wish I had before and after pictures, its just amazing how nasty it was. My other question is about my final oil leak. I thought they were all coming from the valve covers (3 original leaks that came with the car), but now their is this one that I can't determine its source. The picture of it is on the driver's side lower valve covers (yes the turbo ones) and the leak is at the forward end of the engine's block: Thank you in advance for any suggestions, Matt

The bolt with the split plastic retainer clip looks like some of the clips I have that secure the sparkplug cables to the air cooling shroud.

The bolt in the picture is much bigger than the ones that go into my fan shroud, it looks to like a 12 or 13mm bolt, though I haven't measured it directly.
Thank you though, Matt

Don't feel bad, unless you removed your lower valve covers and a few head studs fell out!

The leak might be coming from the oil return tubes, between the tube and the head. I know mine leaks there

The big round washer in the top left. Isn't that a thrust washer from the front wheel hub? It is dirty so I can't see the tab if it is.

Oh, I could be wrong, but the little bolt, nut, and the copper looking little washer, I think they are one of the set of five used to attach the front brake rotor to the wheel hub.

Were they found on the passenger side. If so, these could be the bolts that hold the AC unit in place. Maybe the metal attached to the bolt is part of a broken AC mount. Just a SWAG, can you tell us if the harware is 8mm stuff

Thanks everyone for your interest.
All of the hardware was found on the passenger side. I just measured the three bolts, they're all 10mm. On a side note, the entire A/C system has been removed from the car. That might make sense that who ever removed it might have left the mounting bolts in the car.
