Dune buggy with 911 motor

Has anyone ever seen this done? There is a very nice road going dune buggy in my area with 4 seats, street tires and some type of coilovers, and i always wonder what one of these things would be like with just 2 seats, Fuchs and and a mid-mounted 911 motor. I think it would be a blast around an auto-x course.

When i say dune buggy, i mean basically just a rolling cage with seats and a keg style aluminum gas tank, not the ones in the 70's that had bathtub fiberglass bodies. Most people might think that "nice" and "dunebuggy" shouldnt be in the same sentence, but this thing has a powdercoated frame, LED brake lights, and a pretty hot bug motor.

This one is a little rough but it was the first thing i saw on ebay. You could chop the top rails to lower the center of gravity, lose the windshield and stretch the frame a bit fit a mid engine. Slam it on the ground and weld on new motor mount points.

Yes, i am at work. :)

I've thought about this myself so naturally I think it's a great idea. Many of these chassis are configured as mid-engined already and are remarkably cheap new. As an auto-x or street rod this could be a lot of fun.

There were millions of these things in the '60s. There are still quite a few in sandy beach areas (left coast).

The Army also has some fun dune buggy's...

I use to see a few of them on my offroad trips to Glamis in So. Cal.

A dune buggy with a 911 engine is very, very rare! However, so-equipped race buggies have taken top times at Pike's Peak multiple times over the years!

Yes, one could be plenty of fun at an Autocross or Solo II event!

My woods buggy. It has a 1600cc VW motor and bus tranny. I would love to have a Porsche flat 6 powering it, but it seems too cost prohibitive. This buggy continues to amaze me as to where it will take me.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1149018760.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1149018792.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1149019041.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1149019094.jpg
