915 interchangability?
What year 915 will bolt into my 73 without messing with the mechanical speedo drive.
I'm doing a top end and might as well replace the tired old 915 with a newer version. thanks Bill K

P switched from mechanical to electronic speedos in '76, whereby I think they used up the stock of old tranny's before swapping as there are numerous '76's w/mechanical speedos out there

Bill,
Here's a rundown: '73-'74 915's with 7:31 R&P and mechanical speedo '75 915's had 8:31 R&P and mechanical speedo '76-'86 915's had 8:31 R&P and electric speedo As you can see, you'd be better off rebuilding your own transmission.

thank you both.
the problem is that my trans has a lot of track miles on it and has been rebuilt twice. the last rebuild incorporated all the updates as far as sliders and dog teeth. however it has become very noisy when it gets hot, especially at idle. could the case itself be at the end of its usefulness? thanks Bill K
