shock identification help
Hi,
I've got an 86 Carrera. It seems somewhere in its ownership Yellow Bilstein Sports were put in the rear. The front shock housings are the black boge ones. Is there any way i can tell if the inserts have been upgraded in the front without removing the shock? Thanks a lot! Adam

Possibly. The Bilstein insert comes with a different retaining ring, but you would have to know the differences. You would still need to remove the strut cover to find that out.

If you're speaking of the top dust cover....some guys simply re-use the black ( boge) one instead of installing the green or yellow Bilstein one...
...won't be a definitive test.... I think you need to dismount and look inside to be sure ... ![]() Any prior receipts or service records ?? - Wil

You´re right Wil. Just a thought. IF they happened to be say yellow or green, its probably more likely they were changed too.
