What is the material of the 911 fuel tank sprayed on coating??

Reconditioning my SC 911 fuel tank. Does anyone actually know what white kinda rubber, rugged, kinda hard but textured material is sprayed on these tanks at the factory? It appears to have been applied using at least a 1.3 or larger needle. If you really actually know please clue me in on it. I need to know the precise material and application method for exact duplication.

Best Regards
Antares

Porsche uses Wurth SKS on the 993 and earlier 911's that I know of. You will use a special gun to spray it. I haven't tried the Wurth Stone Guard in a spray can. You may find more advice also if you search Pelican for undercoating/undercoat etc. I think Pelican may carry some Wurth but not sure. Goodluck on your project.

Here is a link and the one you want is SKS Stone Guard.

The texture of Stoneguard from the spray can is finer than you get from the gun, if that matters.

After appling the Wurth which is gray what paint and color code is everyone using over the gray wurth sks? My original textured under coat is white like and has a faded gray paint which is hard as nails. the por-15 gray is too dark to match which i was originally going to put over it. the gray of these tanks is the color of bildge gray in my old wooden boat... of course i could just get an epoxy and have it tinted!

Thanks in advance

I didn't apply any color over the gray. That is the factory color. That is probably the sealer over the metal tank that is white. What year is your 911? That may help some. Thanks.

Mine is a 1979. Just ordered a couple bottles from wurth today. When it arrives i'll apply it with my gun and see how it looks as far as color and hardness goes. i will keep you posted.

Antares, Is the coating on your tank in good shape? This is one of my next projects. The SKS coating on my tank is is good shape except for the corner near the battery. Looks like one could dapple some SKS in that spot and then just repaint the tank with stoneguard rather then strip it down to bare metal.

The web site of Kevin Jeannette ( sp?) ..Gunnar Racing....shows they use a Rustoleum Navy-Grey product to duplicate the grey used in the interior of prototype Porsches....very much the same grey used on the gas tank.

I used an industrial grey alkyd enamel from Bruning ( Silathane )in painting the top of my coated tank....looks perfect.
