Project Update: Finished Por Paint and some bolt ons
So if you've seen some previous pictures I've posted, you know I've been grinding off all the old undercoating on my 74 coupe in order to properly prepare her for the 3.6. How do those relate??? Well it's gotta look good if it's gonna go so fast, besides I hate working on a dirty car - this way I can tinker and all the surfaces will be nice and shiny.
Anyway, some updates: I got all the grinding done that I was working on. Por-15 paint has been going on in stages, and I finally finished it all this weekend. I used por-15 silver everywhere to make it nicer working under the car, and to contrast the blue on the exterior. Black just didn't look right - too dull. Also I sprayed black SKS on the outer fender areas to protect against cracking of the exterior paint from rocks. I made sure to keep it off the areas you normally see - wouldn't want all that work to go to waste!!! Also I started bolting on some bits so I could start cleaning the garage and get ready for the final push. Pictures!!!

Looks wonderful, do tell more about the fuel lines in the rear and routing the oil lines.

Thanks for the kind words, I won't stop posting pics though - I know they can be motivation for someone at some point :-)
John, The fuel lines are AN-6 aeroquip socketless, and the oil lines are routed through the outer rocker area like Jack Olsen had done, as well as other people. I posted some details here... Project Update - por-15, oil lines routing... Definately easier than I thought, except for cutting the rear exit hole. Pushing the lines through the rocker is really easy once the holes are cut at front and back. The only trick is to use needle nose pliers or screwriver to lift the lines over the jack adapter thing.

Stunning, the bottom is nicer than the top of some cars that I've owned. Did you initially have it sand/bead blaster?? all scrapped by hand? what kind of time did the cleaning process take and how!?! ( I need the motivation!)

hehe, no media blasting - the top paint was too good to worry about someone messing it up with the blaster. Besides, I've been told that the sand blasting won't remove the undercoating anyway.
So, yes it was scraped by hand, well with a die grinder anyway. Some areas I did the heat gun and screwdriver method, but that leaves some residue on the metal that needs to be wire wheeled off anyway, so it's easier to do it in one step with the die grinder. It takes a crazy amount of time to do this project. I mean CRAZY LONG TIME. Don't even think about it unless you have lots of patience. I started last summer and am just finished now. Even if you had time to do this every day, it would take a long time as it's very hard on the body, and the mind after a while. I wouldn't say don't do it though - the end result is very nice. Also probably only dipping it would get you a similar result (I'm not sure though, maybe there is special media blasting that works). Also, get a damn good air compressor for the project. I would run mine for 8 hours straight on the weekends sometimes. I used a Ingersoll Rand 2 stage with 60 gallon tank. The thing will run forever and pump enough for the whole family to work at once, even with cheap tools (not that I had that luxury, it was just me under there). :-)
