So what's wrong with running 15 X 7, 8 Fuchs again?

I thought it was tire availability but the Tirerack seems to have a pretty good selection of street/track tires for this size Fuchs. Is there another downside to 15" Fuchs?

Nothing wrong as long as you can find tires that fit your needs. Yokohama just came out with some new tires and I don't think they made any 16" tires and only two "17 tires. It will become increasingly difficult to find the latest generation of tires that will fit 15" wheels in the future.

Toyo RA-1 is a great track (and limited street) tire for those wheels too (205/50 and 225/50) - pretty low sidewall gives lower gearing and great handling...

problem for track tires is that if you need anything BIGGER than 225, you don't have much choice...

I think you can get 245's from Hoosier...

right. that's the only one... so much for having cheaper selection ;)

not to mention that it only comes w/ 50 series profile, where i could *REALLY* use a 45

I understand :) For anyone who's interested, looks like a new version of Hoosier DOT tires has just been announced. Here's the price list with sizes:
