Home Covered RS Door Panels - Part 3
Parts 1 & 2 can be found here :-
Home Covered RS Door Panels Fitted the drivers (LHD) door panel today and had the same closure problem. Removed the lower rear section of the door seal and it closes just fine. The newly covered panel isn't that thick, but obviously the Tuthill rally panel is just a little too big to then be covered, unless I have the wrong door strip. Any advise on getting a thinner door strip etc. much appreciated, as I guess I cannot use a car with a piece of the weatherstrip missing ![]() ![]() ![]() Ian

Ian,
Here are a couple of shots of the RS panels on my car. They are older ones a firend gave me who is into real RSs. So, mine might be "real" RS panels but I can't say for sure. Note that mine are sized smaller than yours. As such, they do not cover as much of the door. This is especially true of the lower 2/3s of the front of the door and the bottom. The panels are just barely larger than the plastic push clips that attach the panel to the door. Since the inside edge of my doors are not painted black as they were from the factory, this small profile is very noticeable on my car. ![]() ![]()

Great pictures - thank you.
I have removed my panel and trimmed the rear edge to 'shorten' it. Will re-fit and see how it goes. I will get there, if a little at a time. Ian

That panel is about half a mile too large, or half a mile too far backwards. It should align with the rear edge of the top moulding.

Definately too long, but I guess you know that. Sounds like the trim job is already taking place.

Hey it's a DIY job and it looks ok for your car. Sure it's alittle big here and there but it's a finished job and your proud of it.
I find when i do this I take a few days to do it, as I glue on edge and then leave it for a day so when I come back the next I can stretch the fabric to make sure there is no buckles and then glue again.. I have done a few top bars on the doors and these take about 3 days..glue abit and leave it.. and say again a few hrs later bit by bit all works out good.. nice job.
