New turbo sump plate!

I need help replacing my old turbo sump plate with the new one from Mainley Custom. The hardware that came with the new plate has screws that go in the bottom of the engine due to the new plate being thicker. I can see that the new screws use a hex to install.......however, my old screws don't have the hex in the end.
How do you remove them?

I'm a little scared of screwing this up and have a few questions.

1 Do I just use vise grip and unscrew the old ones?
2 I assume counter clockwise.....but we all know what happens when we assume.

Thanks for your help.

Sean,

I assume you are talking about studs, not screws. They can be removed in a couple of ways. Companies like Snap-On make a special tool that can unscrew them. Or, you can install two nuts on a stud (sometimes the stud is short, so you have to use two thinner nuts, like jam nuts) and tighten them together towards the end of the stud and then use a wrench on the nut closest to the engine case.

Thay are unscrewed counter-clockwise.

Hope this helps,
JR

JR....yes they are studs. I'll look into the tool to remove them.

Thanks for your help.

Sean-

I just put one on my 2.2 and was worried about this too. I just put 2 nuts on the stud and used 2 10mm wrenches on them and the studs came out easily. Then just put the new ones in using the hex wrench that came with the hardware.

Thanks Steve B.......that sounds like the easiest way. I'll give it a shot this weekend.
