Floor mats slip? Solution!

I dont know bout other cars, but, i dont have carpet under my floormats. Just painted floor. My floor mats are origional and still look good. The underside looks like a burlap with oily substance in them, but they slip all over the place.

Another low tech idea from me!

I took headliner spray (NO, I am not glueing the foor mat to the floor!), the same spray for fabrics, building kicker boxes and the like, sprayed the bottom of the floor mat and let them dry. The headliner spray remains tacky. Clean the floor with Windex or something, no dirt or oil.

When the floormats are dry (check the can for dry time, i let mine dry for an hour or so) lay them down.

It has been two weeks and still no slippage.

I have drien it daily, run one AutoX and the Acid test was my son.

When he hops in the Car with his MONSTER size 14.5 sneakers his floor mat would be all over the place. Now, the floor mats stay in place.

I dont know how long it will last, but I will update this if they do slip.

hmm where the heck do you get this stuff? Sounds like a fix for my problem.

I believe it's called Spray Adhesive, and can be found at most FLAPS. Shouldn't be hard to find. The most popular brands are 3M and Permatex. Considering the application, I think the Permatex brand would work just fine. If you're installing a headliner, or anything permanent, I'd go with 3M. Permatex seems to 'let go' over time.

I have a set that have clips that hold them in place. Works great.

But aren't the clips designed to clip to the carpet ?

Another solution would be that stuff they sell at carpet sores or any home furnishing store to go between throw rugs and wood floors. Less permanent than spraying spraymount.

Also, the black stuff you line your tool box with (looks like a black version of the carpet stuff) is awesome in it's application.

Ideas for the "spray squeamish"!)

No, they have a tether that runs under the seat tunnel and clip the back of it. Under the mat, there are two nylon quick clips that attach to these. Works nice. I thought these came on all the Lloyds mats?

I have the clips, but no tether. Could you post a pic? My mat gets jammed up front all the time.

I'd be wary of autoxing with floormats in - If it gets stuck on a pedal it'll be a bad situation.

I haven't tried this, but there is a material available @ woodworkers supply places used for holding wood in place while it is being worked, say w/ a router. It is a mat made up of thousands of small pillows. It is laid on a table top, and the workpiece is set on it. It grips both the table below and the wood .

BTW my Lloyds mats have the clips and tether. The tether is a woven nylon strap thet snaps into a catch on the u/s of the mat. Then a hook on the other end is fixed to the seat bottom.

as you can see, its not glued to the floor.
I also picked up the can at JoAnn's Fabrics.

Glueing looks like a good idea. I sheet metal screwed mine to my seat bracket. It seems to work too.
