'The Porsche Whisperer' ...
a line uttered by my wife last weekend as I was listening to the A/C compressor with a stethoscope to check for leaks last weekend.
I always like to approach a 911 slowly. Let it know that you're there to make it better. ![]() Brian |

NONSENSE!!! Probably works OK with the timid or skittish cars ... others [the headstrong type] need a whip to be cracked, just so they know the master has arrived!

You can carry anthropomorphism just so far before it becomes laughable ...
To one of our cars the sight of a person approaching with multimeter and sharp probes in hand ... must be just as unsettling as a nurse is to me when approaching with a huge syringe full of Rocephin or gamma globulin and a 1" needle! The nurse can whisper all she likes ... but it isn't going to reassure me that the pain isn't going to be around for a couple of days while I limp on that side after she has done the dirty deed!

Ahh.... cold GG shot in the cheek before going overseas in the Army reserve days. I was sore after that one.

You fellas are taking a far too macho approach. She is beautiful, she is powerful, but she will kill you if you are incompetent. You must be confident but not arrogant, bring a smooth touch to the wheel and the brakes, and never curse the car when it is your own stupidity that results in going slowly. The car will go faster than you can drive her, so who is telling who? You must always give her the best you can afford in fuel, brake fluid and regular maintenance, even if it makes other females jealous, and never abuse her by dropping the clutch or letting the rear end spool going over a hill on the track.
Above all else you must take it slowly. Ask her for a little in this corner, then that one. If you ask for it all at once you will be carried off the track backwards into the nearest immovable object. If you gently work up to the maxmium she will reward you with lower lap times and going home in one piece.

So did you warm up the stethoscope with your hand before you put it on her?

I know one of my early DE instructors was amused at how much I talk to Blkbird. "Good girl" and other words of praise are constantly being said.
I also pat the dash a lot but not in an overtly sexist fashion. My girl likes to praised and coaxed. I'd never crack the whip unless we have a long straight in front of us. Not in a modified 930!

I have a question maybe you could help with. I have a 1982 911SC and ttoday out of the blue the RPM's fell and when the accelerator was pushed it took time to build them back up. It has been running fine until now. I went to check the oil but when I removed the cap the engine cut off, any ideas?
