Type 911 using a 915 support bracket with mounting adapter
 

This thread seems to have been lost or inaccessible by the search engine, so here is another shot to answer a question in another thread...

I wanted to use a 1971 tranny (type 911) in my '73 to lose some wt. and gain the roadracing shift pattern. I described how to do that in other threads. This thread is on how to use the type 915 transmission support cross bar on a 911 trans. The advantage is that you can replace the rubber mounts when they become worn or can swap to the stiffer Wevo mounts.

It's made of steel and then powder coated gray. Yeh, I screwed up one of the holes...

Others have done things a bit differently. One person was able to drill additional holes in the stock 915 support bracket. But I found that this did not put the tranny shaft in the correct vertical plane.

My solution used a chunk of steel - it's stronger than Al. but it added some wt. - rubs me the wrong way...

The real solution would be to see if a G-50 cross bar would fit the car, and then see if I can't modify it, or add an adapter made of Al. to mount the 911 transmission in the right place.
