oil pressure sender wiring, no oil pressure?
Hi guys,
Dropped the engine as ive done many times, stuck it back in, put in oil, hit the key, no oil pressure on guage, shut down. Checked connections, made sure there was actually oil getting to engine, there was oil in case, refilled tank, turned over on starter, still no indicated pressure. I feel ive missed something simple here, any suggestions? This is on a CIS 73. What could I be missing with the wiring here? Nothing on the engine was touched while it was out. I dropped the engine to replace all the bushings in the suspension. And just to check things out. Thanks Bill Woods |

Bill,
It may not be related to the engine pull, or maybe so ... It might be as simple as a pinched wire that is shorted to ground, or it might be a corrosion problem at one of the 14-pin connector -- it goes through both! Then, it might just be a 'stuck' sender ... low Ohms reading [15 -25 Ohms] at all input pressures. 1. Start with the #57 sender -- test resistance value during cranking with wire to gauge disconnected. 2. Test the wiring [Green/Red wire at #57] and gauge circuit by connecting a 500 Ohm or 1000 Ohm potentiometer to the gauge lead at sender and ground ... sweep the pot and see if gauge moves through its range.

thanks warren, i put a sender that I knew was good, put it in, and at idle and slightly above, guage was dead. I knew pressure was good, so I rapped it one time up to 3500 or so, everything came to life. thanks for the wiring harness diagram, I have printed it and filed it with my manuals, i sincerely appreciate the help. My first car was a 67 Barracuda notch back, with a commando 273, it was cool, id like to see pictures of your 68 if handy-thanks again-bill
