Alignment Specifications
I want to get my car aligned and am sure I saw a post recently with factory specifications - but I can't seem to find the thread. Can anyone give me the factory alignment specs for an 89 Carrera 3.2?
|
OK, I found the specs. Considering that I will be using the car on the track about once a month, but still use the car on the street, what should I change to make it a little more aggressive on the track without being too aggressive for the street?

You can have the car set up with more negative camber for better cornering. I have my car at -1.6 degrees rear vs. stock at -1.0 degrees and the front at -1.1 degrees vs stock at 0.0.
The biggest concern is tire wear. |
I have -1.25 in the front and -2.4 in the rears, set up when I tracked the car in the past.
Now I use it as a DD and have not had it realigned. Tire wear is the main concern as stated, but it really depends on how you drive and the tires' treadwear rating (UTQG). On the track, I was running Yoko A032Rs (UTQG 60) and the negative camber tire wear really showed after a couple of events. Now on the street, I'm running Yoko ES100s (UTQG 280) and haven't really noticed major wear on the inside of the tires. IMO, you should look into corner balancing if you are going to track it regularly. |
Thanks for the info. I think I'll start with around -1 in the front and -2 in the rear and see how that improves the handling. Some time in the future I will want to lower it a little more (currently 25"rear and 25 1/4" front) and corner balance.
bmgmd - nice choice of car! I also have an 89 Carrera 3.2 Anniversary. |

fyi: only 500 made (in the U.S. or worldwide?). 240 silver coupes and 60 silver cabs; the other 200 were black coupes/cabs. |
I was told (saw in a magizine) that more than 1 degree of camber hurts the forward traction. I know that tight corners in Solo II require something but what about more toe (out) in front and tire pressures? Also jacking weight off of the rear should be considered.

bmgmd - I was informed by the local Porsche centre that the total made was 875 worldwide. The US ones were silver or black, Euros were Diamond Blue and ROW were Marine Blue. Here's a picture of mine:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1149623877.jpg
