Vacum advance 83 SC
The rpms at idle move from 800 -1200. The car lacks power compared to my 911s with the 3.0 upgrade. (lost that one in a divorce) Ive read an older thread that talked about eliminating the vacum advance and just properly adjusting the timing.
I have two questions; Can the erratic idle rpms be attributable to a malfunctioning vacum advance mechanism? Will I get better response by eliminating the vacum advance? Thanks for your help

Well I would grab a timing gun and see if timing is correct and see what it is doing while the idle bounces. 5deg at idle with the vacume hooked up. Does the car break up under heavy load?

Check your control pressures and your mixture too. Your mixture could be too rich.
Did this just suddenly come on? Is the engine warm or cold?

I just bought the car a month ago. (a fixer) Ive changed the oil and air filter and secured the loose ignition/coil wires.
The car doesnt hit or pull hard. Its as if its a two stroke thats too rich. Its this way whether its hot or cold. I guess Ill just have to break down and take it in to the porsche shop..Thanks for the help guys
