Look what got unwrapped this morning...

I was at Newport Auto Center this morning and this was delivered. Already sold. Sticker was approximately $127k. I honestly didn't recognize it. At first I thought Cayman and then I saw the cutouts and shape of the 911 and was pleasantly surprised.

A GT2 hiding in the corner.

Two things:

I would lose my license within 3 months tops.

Also, I am so tired of silver Porsches and silver cars in general. Absolutely no offense to all the silver car owners on this thread because you all bought them when silver was not the top colour.

New car = silver = pick a colour that hopefully keeps its resale value

silver is the new beige

Have people lost their imagination?

I love silver but I know what you mean...

I was "on assignment" in Germany for 4 mos last year...and without any exaggeration..fully 99% of the German cars on the road were of only TWO colors...either BLACK or SILVER.

When I commented on this strange state of affairs...especially after seeing the incredible hues of the 70's..everyone mentioned it is done for "the next guy"..these are the most sought after or "easy" to sell cars in the used car market !!!

- Wil

PS--this Turbo ...strangely ...does *nothing* for me. The rear-quarter shot does not bring my juices to a boil like a nice 930 flank would !

Yeah, but you won't be seeing the rear quarter of that car for very long....lol. I read that they are bringing back a couple of those whacky colors for the GT3.

I also wouldn't see the back-end of a midget dirt track sprint racer for any length of time...but that doesn't make me go "ga-ga" all over it either !! ...

I'll throw out the theory that the car probably looks MUCH better in person then in pictures. The 996 turbo looks absolutely boring in pics yet has all kinds of aggressive presence when seen in person, especially from behind.

The water cooled ones have never looked as aggresive to me as the old 930's and 965's but that hasmore to do with the fact that they don't have to have the big boxy wing to hide ithe intercooler. The two black 997 Turbos that i saqw looked good, but strangely enough, even with the more retro look on the 997's, I still think that the Cayman S is the best looking car that Porsche is currently building.

I resemble that remark, or at least I did a few months ago - only mine was an A4 Avant with a 'few' enhancements... Now I only lust after my Carrera - it's been two weeks since I've driven it - out of town on business. I never thought I'd have withdrawals like I do right now.

The one thing that I really don't care for about the new Turbo (and has been said many times) are the turning signals in the intakes. Way too 'Audiesque' to me. It would look OK on something like the Q7, but not on the Turbo.

I would certainly take it in silver, but I'd rather have GP White...

It does. But for some reason the GT2 somehow commanded more presence than the new Turbo. It looked much more aggressive. However the curves of a 930 or even 89turbocabmike's car have more meaning to me.

Even though it is a beautiful car, those fenders will never bring the ooooohhh and ahhhhhh that the old widebody's do. I so wish they went back to something more agressive looking

I'll defnitely agree that there is no more beautiful Porsche (in my eyes) than the venerable 930! So "in you face" raw.

Already sold....

Envious. I hate feeling envious.

What a boring existence being able to fork up that kind of money on a car..

The only problem is that the cabin itself is wider than the old cars, so if they wanted the same widebody effect, they'll end up being as wide as the Murcielago...

However, there is a little more definition on the 997 fenders compared to the 996 ones that is not unlike the difference between midyear cars and the cars with Carrera flares. Anyone have a side-by-side shot of 996 and 997 to compare the fender shapes?

There's a 997 C4S with full GT3 aerokit that I see now and then around the city. I'm a die-hard air cooled fan but I must admit that thing is absolutely gorgeous. Perhaps except for the 19 inchers, they make the car sit too high even with not much gap between the top of the tire and the fender.

In a very distant future, I would like to drive a 997 with 996 tail lights and 996C4S center reflector. Now that's what a true evolution from 993 should look like. Well, I might change my mind when 998 or whatever comes out

It's more the rear fender flares and "haunches" , and how they blend in with the bodywork....more than the big spoiler base that hides the intercooler....that *makes* the 930 !

yes...today's cars are wider making big fender flares impractical...at the same time, it makes the NA and Turbo cars look much the same.

The 997 is also way too busy in details....and some of the details are just plain wrong and too Japanese.... the "pimple" front turn signals and the busy front and rear end-caps, etc....
