Tire size fitment on 7/ 9 x 16 Fuchs Question ............Again Please
 

Ok. Ok..............I know this has been covered but bear with me. Have '85 targa installing new slickie 7 /9's chromed fuchs
Spirited street driven only. Has been lowered to @euro specs. Looks right / sits right.

The overwhelming majority seem to think that for the front 205/50 or 55 is the size of choice. Any taller will rub. As a matter of fact the PO installed 225's on 6" on the front and they were rubbing the inner fenderwell on extreme turn-in. So I know I must go smaller diameter. Do all aggree on 205's?

For the rear, what size will fit / work? - I'd like to install the widest tire to fill out the 9's and still be ok clearance-wise.

I'm a street-rod guy so I know about fender lip and wheel arch rolling. Like to keep that to a minimum if possible.

FWIW, I am running 205/55 upfront and 245/45 in the rear which I think is stock for 7's and 9's. No rubbing issues at all and no spacers. A friend says he runs 245/50 on his turbo with no rubbing issues. The only issue is the declining selction of tires in this size. Tirerack, for example, pulled the SO-3 from their website in 245/45 within the last 10 days.

and BF GOODRICH IS BACKORDERED AT FACTORY TIL JULY! foaming at mouth for my 7 and 9's to arrive from jason cullen, had to make corp. decision on what tire will be available in SW in event of flat. since BIG O tires and DISCOUNT tire are in phx/salt lake city/denver/albuq. in event of flat i could get one shipped to BFE and layover in BFE until tire arrived avoiding buying 4 new tires to replace 1 oddball NLA flat tire. so we went w/yoko es 100's. when BFG gets their ducks in a row we will try them. PITA 7 and 9's but they really are cool looking! pulling into any tire place anywhere w/20yr old P-CAR is risky at best. watch your oil lines on lift, hover over kid like a hawk so he doesnt put 200 ft lbs of torque on your nuts and use electrical tape on wheel rims when busting tires off/on rim. it is in your BEST INTEREST TO WATCH THEM VERY CLOSE! ie. tell them EXACTLY what to do and not to do! 96ft lbs torque on wheel nuts!!!!!

205/55/16 FRONT(pointy end) 245/45/16(fat end) lowered to euro height. no fuss/ no muss/ no hassles as per jim patrick patrick motorsports. now when i receive them hopefully friday we will know if any adjustments needed. each car is different.

BFG's were rated 10 on dry and 10 on wet as per tire rack. costco sells them and today i will check their stock as last ditch effort for my numero uno choice. if not, it be the YOKOS. BFG 1-800 847 3435 customer service #. raise hell with them and get back to me. last i heard was 1st call june then 2nd call they told me july production dates. you can get on their list and be in line for them. im pressed because im leaving end of month on road trip.

ya know this is a classic case of corp america morons running a ship. used to be in corp america and watched this day in day out as far as production rates and items being deleted etc. get the customer hooked on product and then cease production or go to "new improved" item to take its place, and "new" item is cheaper material,cheaper quality etc. and customers want to RING YOUR NECK! go with the tire that you can GET ANYWHERE YOU PLAN ON GOING! this crap of "limited availability" is just that ..........CRAP! bet you cant wait to hear "im sorry sir but i will have to special order this tire for you and it will take 3 weeks" in the middle of your dream road trip vacation in your P-CAR!

Hey Charles, take a look at the Avon in these sizes on Tirerack. These sound pretty good, have gotten good comments on this BB and the price is really right. I think I will go with a set in a few weeks when I order.

Also Google "tires on line" to find other on-line dealers. I found a number of other folks selling tires including one (I think???) doing BF Goodrich exclusively.

Yes, 205/55 and 245/45 fit perfectly with 7s&9s. Going to 225 up front will more likely than not require rolling the driver's side lip ...not worth it for a street car, IMHO. But there are no issues with rubbing at the rear. My SC is pretty low, and there is lots of clearance with the 245s on 9s. I've heard that someone makes a 265x16, but I wouldn't want to go that tall as it's still a 45 profile, IIRC ...not to mention that you will undoubtedly be adding understeer if you stick with a 205 front. 245/45 is the easy choice if you ask me. :) Hope this helps you.

halm i like avon products. we bought a 14ft inflatible boat over zodiac because of their quality. will look into it today. if jason cullen comes thru for me friday(wheel delivery) i will be rushed (read that panicked) to get meats on ASAP if not sooner to get my damn car out of shop and ENJOY THE FRUITS OF MY LABORS! its coming down to paint on RUF parts today or yesterday and we are done w/2 month odyssey that has been VERY SPENDY to say the least. so at this point whatever decent tire available in the SW regardless of cost will be mounted. since i have 6 and 7's also we are bouncing around ideas of going to full blown RACE COMPOUND TIRES for those on track day. havent thought that far yet.

Edward, can you post pictures of your 9” Fuchs. I want to switch to 9” Fuchs in the rear of my 86, 911 but I do not want to do any modification to the car.

These sorts of discussions NEED to identify brand/style of TIRE ...along with SIZE..... I've mentioned this in other posts where one guy says "X" size fits and another says "no way" unless rolled, etc...

If you look at actual tire specs, there are "225's" that are wider either at tread or as measured in section width.... than some "245's"....as an example.

245/45 - 16 Bridgestone Potenzas RE570s

I had to roll the front fender lips on the driver's side after a lowering with 205/55 - 16 Bridgestone RE560s.

I doubt any brand size 225/50 - 16 will fit on my front.
