Used 911
I am looking at buying a 1993 911sc my big concern is that the car has 96K Miles. the owner is not thr original and is not shure about the service history. The price seems attractive at $12,995 what should I do to keep from getting in trouble.

1. Have the car inspected by a Porsche mechanic
2. Ask if the car has been upgraded to the Carrera chain tensioners - if yes, there should be 2 oil tubes on either side of the fan in the engine bay; if no, count on spending the money to have the work done 3. Ask the current owner if the car has a pop-off valve and updated clutch; the pop-off valve is easy to see, it will be a "door" or flap in the airbox; the clutch, of course, is not so easy : ) I have an '83 SC w/ 97k miles that still runs very strong. W/ the exception of valve covers and oil return tubes (standard winter storage failure items), I have not had a lick of trouble w/ the car. I am being "forced" into selling it only b/c I have to pay for the last 2 years of law school : ( The SC models are reliable, and there are a couple in our local PCA region that have well over 100k miles on them and are still going strong. The key is making sure you have an inspection done so you know what you're dealing with - the money it costs you up front will be more than made up for by the piece of mind it'll buy you... |

There are many (myself included) who think that the SCs are the best cars that Porsche built from a reliability standpoint. It is not uncommon for 3.0L motors to go 250,000 miles before they need a rebuild. These motors are strong and bullet-proof, if well taken care of.
