Need a good one for a GIRL!!!
yep, im dating a girl that wants a 911! im 29 and still single and have an excellent condition 88 coupe in black over black- clean! anway, she has always loved 911's, has a good job (attorney), and a saab. after hanging out with me for a few months and seeing my sickness! and getting her own going she wants one and is ready to do it- i told her "hey, live the dream. you're still single and if you marry me someday we're gonna have at least one 911 if not more always so . . . get it on!" she's down.
DETAILS: she wants a cab- ok with me though i wouldn't want one personally. it's for her. STYLE: considering she is willing to spend somewhere in the mid 20's to, at the high end possibly mid 30's if it's really a special one- so, she isn't as die-hard as many of us, just has always like them--- so, im thinking super nice 964 cab (93-4?) decent 993 cab or even a 996 if it's right (RMS issues ok etc)--- while she likes the idea of my 3.2 she needs the more modern effects of post 3.2's COLOR:she's a bit scared of black as she sees the madness that i go through though i don't mind---- otherwise open to most other colors- will consider black for sure if it's a special one- TRANNY: she drives a lot- all over Los Angels and San Diego counties- she is fine with a manual or tip- again, it's for her not me so im supportive of that--- she has had both man and automatics- she will not be tracking of even DE'ing this car- OKAY. so ideas? thoughts? anyone have something on the auction block?

I think the 993 would be the way to go.

yeah, 993 is great- but . . . for 30k we could get a really clean late 964 that has modern touches etc.- they might not climb value but most depreciation is done- close to done on them- it's tough- id like to avoid the early 996's for the most part as they are not done depreciating i think- 99's and such will lose 20% more in the next year or two- i think . . .

Has she considered a targa? The pricing would be less than the cab and I couldn't be happier with mine.

964 targa or cab for best value.

The 993 targas with the retractable glass roofs are really nice but harder to find.

I'd say if it's hers also look as tip. boxster s.
should be able to find one with low mileage more modern...working A/C..for the rare occurance you'd need it in SoCal. Comfy ride, but still sporty. stock for stock, will out handel the 911 in the canyons I've owned both and the boxser is very livable for day to day operations. It just dosen't have the panahce of a 911...until you drive it. otherwise a 964cab as others have stated for best value. Wouldn't a 996/993 cab pushing $40k+?

Do You do your own wrench work? If so, I suggest you try to find a cherry 87-89 Cab. That way, you can amaze her with your knowledge of the car, because it's similar to yours. A really kickass 87-89 cab is worth as much as an good 964, anyway.

993 tiptronic is an excellent value as a cab. I'd go for that. I would stay away from the 996, as it looks like a boxter as a cab and the bottom will fall out on pricing.

If she stretches her budget just a little bit, tip 993 cab is the way to go.

Mid 20s' to 30s' buys a very, very nice low mileage Boxster these days. Get the Tiptronic. It's the only way to go IMO for a daily driver in L.A. traffic. Get the Boxster S or at least a Y2K base model. The base model before 2000 was 2.5L in 2000 they increased displacement to 2.7L.

Stay away from the boxter. It will not hold it's value as well as a 993 and it has none of the "hand built" quality, that air cooled 911s, inlcuding the 993 still offer.

My wife got me into it. She bought a 993 C4S and loves it! Let's not assume that because she is a woman she needs a tiptronic! I had my wife test drive one tiptronic....she hated it. Loves the six speed. Let's not glorify the tiptronic....it is an automatic...might as well keep the saab.
Watch for the clogged air injection fault. We ended up having Porsche rebuild the heads...but got lucky because emmission related faults are covered for 7 years in CA so Porsche fixed it. Good PPI is important. Otherwise, has been trouble free and fun. As for the boxster. It is the first zero defect car my Dad has ever owned. Drive one and you'll respect them a lot more. Plus, the prices have already crashed which is good for her as they represent a great value used. Matt

"she drives a lot- all over Los Angels and San Diego counties"
This means that she sits in traffic a lot, unless she drives between 12am and 3am. That's why I suggested a tip. Not because she ain't capable to manually shift or doesn't like a 6 speed. I would not buy a tiptronic 911, but if I did a lot of that type of driving, I would have a daily driver with an automatic. You can't beat it in stop and go traffic. George |

I drove a '95 cab with Tip. I was surprised how comfortable it rode compared to my 88 coupe. All the creature comforts, and the extra HP compensated for the auto. Not much wind noise, and fun with the top down. I wouldn't want one to have in Midwest, too much time with the top up!
How about a nice muted yellow with tan leather int? Robby

John-Carlos!
Like Stephanie, who replied to you, I have an '86 Targa. See if your girlfriend would like something like the attached photo. She can't have mine, of course, as it is not not going anywhere except down the road in a rush. Larry 1986 Carrera Targa, RED! 54K miles.... and climbing, hard not to drive it! ![]() |
