Heat Exchanger Crackle and Pop

Hi all,

New 77 911S. Sitting several years. Did all the basics, valve adjustment, gaskets, hoses, etc. I did some searches on heat exchanger fires, etc. Here's my question.

Im guessing there's some old critters, oil, etc in there. If after running for about 15 mins, there's a crackle and pop, but minimal smoke, should I just run it to burn it out?

I have extinguishers ready with me.

So..run and burn it off, or take them down and clean?

Thanks for your comments.
Curt
