How do you pronounce "Porsche"

I was at the auto parts place yesterday and I heard two guys somewhat arguing over whether the word "PORSCHE" is pronounced:

POOR-SH

or

POOR-SH-a

What is the proper pronunciation or doesn't it matter?

I believe that it's pronounced:

"POR-SHA".

Ditto.

The only time i dont cringe at the sound of "Porsh" is if they have an English accent, but i still dont like it.

The proper way is the second way, but I have to admit that except when I am being careful around P-car buffs, I say it wrong. I know it is a persons name and deserves to be pronounced correctly, but I don't think the Porsche family minds too much that I mispronounce their name. If someone loves something I create as much as I love the Porsches 911 and mispronounces my name I'll be a happy camper.

This is one of those questions that has been answered and debated to the ends of the forum though.

Unlike English, all letters are pronounced in German. (Or Latin, Italian etc.)
The "e" is pronounced somewhat like "Porscheh".
Also, there is no "Fuch" wheel.
It's always Fuchs, singular or plural; pronounced: Fooks. (Meaning: Fox)

Thanks for the audio.
Por-sha is pretty close.

However, I don't go around correcting people, unless I'm arguing with them and have run out of clever things to say. Yep, OK I guess I do go 'round correcting people.

It's pronounced Por-sha, of course. There's no argument there. I always say Por-sha, never Porsh. But I don't care what others say.

Can't "Porsh" be considered a nickname like Chevy or Jag? When I hear others say "Porsh", I get the feeling they know it's really "Por-sha", but they're just saying the equivalent of Chevy or Jag. Maybe I'll start asking, tactfully, people who say "Porsh" if that's the case.

I just don't like the nickname, if that's what it is. Just like a San Franciscan cringes at the nickname "Frisco".

I can see the fights starting already.

Hey, I don't call your Country a C*nt, don't call my Porsche a Porsh.

I'm no linguist of great cunning, but I believe what some perceive as a second syllable in 'Porsche' is just a glottal stop that is more particular to the native german language speaker.

OMG...here we go again. LOL!!! It's the man's last name for goodness sake. The family pronounces it Porsch-uh. It has nothing to do with pronunciation of the German alphabet. There is no argument to be made. If the family pronounced their name as Porsch..then fine...but that's not how they say it.

But they don't live in the US.

Yeah and then it'll digress into a thread on illegal immigration! and how to pronounce Chipotle and Chimmichanga.

It's Porsch -uh whether anyone likes it or uses it. It is what it is. People's willingness to pronounce it incorrectly doesn't change it.

People's resisitance to (oooohhh: "foreign" influnce doesn't change it either). Personally, I can pronounce words correctly (or I try) in at least two languages...I consider that an accomplishment over pronouncing them corrctly in only one. YMMV.

I'll bet that purist owners of Jaguars cringe at "Jag" and only pronounce it "Jag-you-are" like the british do.

My name gets mispronounced everyday - I dont care. I figure if they know how to say my name correctly then they know me. The ones that dont are either pretending or wish they did (LOL). You can use the same rule will Porsche and it will apply just fine.
