How much $ do you have in your car?

The two questions-

How much have you spent on your car?

and...

Is $25k too much to have wrapped up in a 72 911t?

TIA

PS-this is the look I'm considering but with a duck and RS bumpers. What do you think?

Bob

the way I see it is that this is your hobby and passion. You cannot try to rationalize it.

If you can comfortably afford the $$$ you are thinking of "investing" in your car then do it.

I have more than $25k invested in the motor alone...

I know you want to do it... and this car will be special to you (looking at the fact you are planning to do a lot of diy).

I say go for it. Again it is always easy to spend smeone else's money but if you are not taking the money away from the college fund/mortgage/wedding etc then treat yourself!

I think I would go the route you are suggesting a nice street/track car.
This is what I am doing. A few things I am doing to make it more easy to adjust between track abd street are
1-Adj shox's
2- front adj camber boxes

The car in the pic look very original also another reason to just do it. At least you will know your car inside/out

I've got somewhere around $15k in mine. I have done it over a period of time, (easier on the wallet and wifey doesn't notice as much). Everything has been diy and because it's not a daily driver can do at my leisure. The satisfaction and pleasure derived is priceless. My children (13,11,&7 yrs) have been active in any way I could find. Is it worth it? Absolutely! How many 13yr olds can bleed brakes? My 11yr old daughter knows how to change a tire and my 7yr old son is learning the proper way to wash a car. I couldn't at that age...

I agree with Jon. They are recreational cars and not daily drivers for some. Take your time and do it the way you want it done. I bought mine the way I would do it if I started from scratch. It was cheaper this way. You can never put a price on your hobby this is why it is a hobby. I plan to buy more Porsches in the future and slowly get them to a satisfying level..(but are we really completely satisfied?)

I know I'll be flamed for this.... but I wouln't lose sleep over getting a 993. They are a little more liveable on a daily basis but the driving experience is somewhat diluted from an early car... especially if set up properly.

Can the 993 be turned into a hot car... yep! but I wouldn't do it if u have already habe a 911 hot rod.

I have a lot of $$$ into my 73E, and will keep feeding it money over the coming years. I'm afraid to total it up but I'm sure it's well north of the $25k you have into your 72T, Bob.

I have a '73.5 Targa.....Paid 8K in 1990....I've put in about 3K working on the interior, brakes and suspension. I had a small engine fire that just burned a few wires and hoses. My insurance company sprung for $4,500 to pay for the engine to come out, all new hoses, wires, intake rubber, clutch and transmission seal....It drives like a new car now........

I say go for if you can afford, we only go around once. Do what makes U happy.....

My wife knows about the burn rate on the car, and, except for some minor grumbling, she's been pretty supportive. She likes the car, so that helps.

If I had a straight rust free early tub I wouldn't sell it to buy another one. You know the history of your race car which I think is a very important issue. I say keep the car you have detune it some and enjoy. You might be able to save a couple bucks by selling the race parts you take off in the detuning process. The headers have to be worth something as well as the solid engine mounts. If it is a car you love and the total of 25K into a car worth 15 to 18K doesn't bother you or compromise your current situation stick with what you've got.

sweet mother of pearl if you are going to end up with that beauty in the pic after $25k you oughtta be smiling the whole way!!!!

No b.s. that is one wicked 911.

slo-bob if the engine is tight and you're more than happy with performance i'd say you got a good plan.

A friend of mine said he added up all the receipts on his SC the other day. I didn't ask how much, I asked why?

I'm with JeremyD, never add em up.

PS My coupe only ocassionally drools...

i was drooling over that grey car again and i think you need to make it $25,600 so you can get some R lights on the back of that puppy!

but wait, maybe you can skip the duck and pay for the R lights in the process........hmmmm........i'll have to think about this. not entirely sure how i want to spend your money just yet
