BLACKED** out Back- (easily reverted to stock)
Hey all- hope the weekend was good. After getting back my car from TRE and some suspension work and ac charge (great job, great service- thanks Dave and Jeremey!) I decided to have a little fun. Ive been following threads of different ways to trick out the rear from panels to paint etc- since my car is black i went with a film/tint aka "smoked" out the whole rear- it's easy on and off so Im gonna "wear" it for a while or until they make me take it off-
total cost was $40 bucks for the film which you apply easily with soap and water after cutting to size- it's much thicker than tint but applies similarly- *Bonus- my first request for an AC charge- done at TRE (with 134conversion prev. done serveral years ago) blows ice cold! im stunned but happy! Here she is after a nice wash, polish, and wax- Here's a couple of pics of the smoked out rear-- http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1150138712.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1150138732.jpg |
One of the front too!

Looks very stealthy! What did you use for the black out?
|
It's just a film that I picked up from an auto detailer/style shop- it's the commonly used film for smoking tail lights for Escalades, etc- you should be able to find it at better detail/tint/stereo shops- it's really easy to work with and i like that it's not permanent at all- fun!

The Force is with you Darth Vader

Hey, I like that. How dark did you go?
|
Just be sure that the heat generated by the engine doesn't fuse the film to the rear fenders/lid paint...
|
The heat won't do that. Its the same film used on window tint which sits in direct sunlight in places like Las Vegas. If it can stand that heat then it will be fine.
|
thanks!
they only had 2 shades- this one is equivalent to around 35%- i still want the lights to show through when "lit and they do- safety is somewhat important but they're dark enough that the illusion of a clean, uniform, black panel |
Smoke the front signals too!
|
yeah, i know BUT the guy at the shop where i got the film told me that they highly reco not to do the fronts and it makes sense- they don't glow as brightly and appartently cops do not take kindly at all to the fronts- i dunno, i figure the back is so blantant that i might as well but maybe some cops will think it's stock- in Los Angeles there are sooo many cars rolling aroung with blacked out everythings that i don't know how often they get ya just for that- id imagine it's usually an "add on" fix it tick- it would look cool though! I may play with a black chrome exhaust tip but kinda like the brief flash of the chrome- a little bit of pop from the darkness- the girl im dating (still looking for a 25-low,low 30's cab- 993 or 964 with no leaks!) said i should get a plate that reads "no1sith" or "dvader"- yeah, good call up above on the darth vader action- the fat rear looks like 2/3 of darth vaders helmet right?
