79 911 center console removal

help I"am trying to remove the center console from my 79 911. I'am just about to start ripping out carpet but thought you guys would know better. the reason for this is i need to adjust my shifter linkage. the previous owner installed a short shift kit and it always made noise. now it goes into gear ok(1st thru 5th) but sometimes gets stuck in reverse. the only way to release it from reverse is by putting into 1st gear.any ideas about this problem.

There is a front piece on the console, remove the four screws and you will find the two screws that mount the console to the floor. At the back of the console is a tab that slips throught a slot in the carpeting. Lift the front of the console and slide it forward, the rear tab wit come free and clear the carpet.
