Corbeau Seat Install

I have commented on a couple of threads about buying sport seats. A couple of weeks ago I waved my credit card at a local speed shop and bought a pair of Corbeau LG1. I installed them tonight and it was very easy. Here is the detail:

Cost
Seat $349 each
Bracket $ 59 each
Add freight, tax, etc.
Total $923.81

Install:
It was actually easier to install the new seats than it was to take out the old. Both were very easy, slide the seat back and take out two allen head bolts, move the seat forward and take out the two at the rear. The install process was about the same. I will probably go back and replace the allen head bolts with larger bolts but that is a no brainer for later. The only problem I had was working the allen wrench around under the old seat. Regular bolts and wrenches would be a lot easier.

The whole process for both seats was only about an hour and a half and used just a couple of allen head wrenches. The Corbeau brackets fit very well. Here are the pics.

The old. look.

Reference for size.

Half done.

Complete.

I checked the weight of the old seat at 30 lbs., the same as the Corbeau specification. A wash for you lightweight guys. I also did an unscientific helmet clearance check for future DE days.

The seats raised the sitting position a little but it actually feels better. I look forward to testing the lateral support improvements sometime soon.

I'm curious. Do the seat belts attach to the seat or the floor? On my electric sport seats the connector for the belt is attached to the seat. Was curious how you did that with the new seats.

The belts are original and will be replaced at some point. They attach to the floor.

I think 85 is the start year for the new seat mounting method with the belt brackets attaching to the seat and not the tunnel.

Too bad you didn't save any weight. I recently installed some Recaro Speeds in my car, and they are almost exactly the same weight as the Corbeaus. I had a driver's side 4 way power seat that weighed a hefty 52 lbs however, so I did get a nice weight savings out of it.

Enjoy the seats!

The passenger side has a removeable bracket, but the power driver's side doesn't (it's part of the rail), so you'll have to buy a used one somewhere.

See this post for how I fitted the passenger side. The driver's side is very similar.

Regarding headroom, I actually lost a little. The new seats are firmer in the "seat" so I sit a little higher. The old seats, as you can see, were pretty worn and I sat too low.

Realistically, I have not had the top on in over a year so I don't really care much about headroom. I did significant measurements to make sure the seat would fit but did not think of headroom.
