my ride in this morning...
I noticed yesterday that the car seemed to cut out when I hit some bumps. At first i thought it was me letting off the throttle... BUT... this morning, the car died twice. Once at a stop light, and next getting onto the highway. I blipped the throttle a couple of times to get it going again, and only on the third blip did it come back. Almost at the office now, and there are train tracks I need to go over, I give it a hefty push of throttle and sure enough, the car was cutting out for some short seconds.
It's most certainly electrical... where to start looking?

Check fuel pump relay and fuses, your ignition switch, and the round black connections on the bottom of the dash below the steering wheel.

be sure the overboost relay is firmly plugged in. it's the tall yellow one on the engine compartment fuse panel.

That would cause the car to cut out even if not on boost? I was at 2K RPM, and I was under the impression that the relay was only active under boost..and cuts off the fuel pump when overboosting.
Will check it though.

Had a similar problem. The grounding wires on the top of the engine were loose.

re-seated the relay, took it our for lunch and seemed ok after crossing the same train tracks. I love these intermittent electrical issues.
Thanks guys... hope that licks it. Very uneasy feeling when driving..

Had a similar problem. The electrical connections to the coil were loose. They were the "press on" style and had rattled themselves free.

My car is still doing it. Also, I noticed that it doesn't start when cold. I need to put my foot on the gas in order for it to keep running. As if the 'choke' so to speak, is not working.
Three times today, the car cut out when I was driving, and there were no bumps this time. If I pump the throttle, it seems to come back. Thoughts, I've already re-seated the overboost relay, could it be the fuel pumps?

Fuel pump/DME relay? If it seems to act up when you are off-throttle, and pumping throttle brings it back from a stall, could it be something to do with idle position sensor and/or idle control valve?

The car doesn't do it simply off throttle, I could be cruising along and it dies forr about a second or two, in that time frame, I pump the throttle to get it back going. May be the relay. They're not to expensive so I may just get a spare and try it. The car was running fine all this time, I can't see it being at adjustment, more a wire/connection or something..
I will do the verifications for the cold start issue. Look into the AAR and cold start injector. I have to find out where all this stuff is. under the IC and air box?

one more thing... I had the A/C on today as it was hot, and that made the car die as well. Kept the idle too low and then conked out.

My car is now doing it more often and doesn't come back to life quickly. I've replaced the fuel pump relay, and resoldered the insides of the overboost relay. Could it be the distributor and or CDI ? These intermittent issues are hard to diagnose!
Car almost left me stranded yesterday, and now I'm afraid to take it! When it cuts outs, it just dies and then comes bakc 10 - 15 seconds later.

Fuel filter or accumulator clogged up? Just a guess.

Check the throtle body plunger, sometimes it gets durty/gummed and doesn't float as it should; also the fuel distributor plunger could be gummed out.

WAG here... maybe double check your battery connections? Do you lose all power (lights, radio, etc) or just engine?

The lights and radio stay on... the car(engine) simply dies... and then comes back most of the time before it comes to a full stop.

Is there another way you can drive to work that doesn't involve crossing railway lines
