1982 911sc

I checked my fuses and found that number 18 was blown. It controls the Int lights, clock, Glove Compartment light, Luggage compartment, and OXS. I am thinking OXS is the oxygen sensor, that could explain the rough idle i think. My question is when I tried to put a new fuse in it blew right away. I have tried putting several fuses (5 Amperes) in and they keep blowing as soon as both ends make contact. Does anyone know why this is?

Thanks,
Brummettw

Seems like you have a short in some part of one of those circuits. Try to isolate the short by removing bulbs one at a time (you might find the short that way, if the break is after the bulb in the circuit). Otherwise, get a multimeter and start looking for the break one wire at a time- one will have continuity to the chassis that should'nt be there.
Good luck!

Check around in the trunk area. If one of the hot wires has become unpluged (by somebody replacing a hinge strut, etc.) it could ground against the body and blow fuses. DO NOT bypass fuse or replace with larger amperage- unless you want a new wiring harness.

wiring

Thanks for all the help. I traced it to the wiring in the glove compartment light. There are three wire total on it but the two brown wires that are beside one another were fried.

I am still awaiting my book with wiring diagrams for my 1982 911SC. I found that the two wires that connected next to one another on the glove compartment light were fried. I was able to trace one back to fuse #18, but I do not know where the other goes and it is still hot. Can anyone tell me where or what the other wire is connected to.

Thanks

Thanks to all that replied. THe problem I found was a wire that had grounded out on the Glove compartment light. Once that was fixed it runs like a champ....
