Odometer not working
Before I tear things apart I wanted to know if anyone has suggestions on what the problem is.
My speedometer works fine, however the odometer is not racking up my miles. I have driven about 60 miles and it only went about 1/10th of a mile? any help is appreciated. |
Which car? Get the Wayne Dempsey: 101 Projects for your Porsche 911. It gives you the fix. It is probably the big toothed gear that is turned by the electrical wormgear motor. That was what was wrong with mine. It is a very common problem. You need to take it apart to verify which part then order it through Pelican parts.

I always forget to list what I have.
'76 911 915 trans 3.0ltr Thanks Huh, I have the book and will check it out. |
If its the gear, you will know it the minute you pull the speedo apart...the gear usually will just crumble to pieces. I bought a replacement gear ahead of time and i replaced the gear and had the speedo back in and working within an hour. Just need to be careful when you remove the speedo documenting the wiring configuration, etc. If you take your time you should be fine.

I don't think the gear is for sale here. Do a search for something like odometer. com . They sell the gears you need.
Or send it to a speedo shop. Chances are with the age of these gauges, they need refurbishing anyway. |

Click on it and follow the links. |
Try North Hollywood Odometer, they have all the parts and service the VDO gauges. They have a website.
