71 Trailing Arm upgrade questions

Hi folks. I just came across a pair of 76 aluminum trailing arms,. Since I'm in the midst of a suspension overhaul I figure why not.

My question is... Do I need to change anything else when I upgrade to the new arms?

Thanks.

In a word, yes. It starts with the stub axle compatability and goes on to the shock you would use, You need different toe and camber asjustment bolts if they didn't come on the arms. There may be more issues I don't remember.

Do a search on this, it's been covered many times. I have to say this, there are a couple of spreadsheets showing the weight loss per item. You will save less than 6 lbs. total by switching out the arms.

They look cool, I suppose. Not as strong. I went for the AL change on the cross member and I just threw it away this morn. I bent it going off the track last year. One of our popular members here told me that wouldn't have happened if I had left the steel one under there. Fortunately, I still had the original.

Sometimes newer is not better. YMMV

With the exception of CV joint compatibility, I think I addressed most everything here.

Thanks for the great input. Seems like more trouble than it's worth.

Cheers.
