Portland Oragon to Otawa in 5 days.......

Well I recieved a phone call from one of my old high school buddies that live in Portland Oregon last we. Seems he is getting home sick and want to come back to Canada for the summer. Trouble is he doesn't want to fly over and be whithout a set of wheels for the summer. His idea is for me to fly down and drive back here with him. So on June 17th I am flying to PDX and our trek starts early on the 18th.

So what I am looking for is ideas as to great roads to drive, nice spots to see, good food, greasy spoons..... you get the idea. We plan on driving through Montana and up into Canada via Sault St. Marie.
We are going to be doing this drive in an 82SC so a list of garages, either home or businesses, might be a really good idea for us to have incase we have trouble along the way.

I've included a few pic of the last time I went to visit him and we drove to Mount Washington. I especially like the one of me getting the speeding ticket.

I noticed you dont have a Valentine one just to the left of the rear view mirror. That might help explain the presence of Smokey outside your window.

I'll have to check if my buddy has a detector now. If not it may be a good investment for the trip.

Anyone know the deal in Montana with the speed limits? Is it still no limit during the day and 75mph at night?

The Valentine One is the best self defense weapon since the single action colt! Mine is at the factory for an upgrade right now, and I'm feeling vulnerable...

Fuses, pump-relay.....
Make sure the head lights are ajusted right, bring a spare bulb.
The original wrenches in the tool kit suck, get some decent metric ones and a 3/8-drive metric socket set.
To change the fan belt, you'll need the correct J-wrench and a 24mm? socket; practise, put a new belt on before you leave.

Thanks Gunter,

Pump relay and fuses are a great idea, sometimes hard to find in the middle of nowhere.

In a pinch, you can use one of the black relays for the pump but, I would get the right red one. (And exchange it right away to make sure it works)
If you don't have a Bentley Repair Manual, get one. Even if you don't understand what's in it, a mechanic along the way needs the data. Correct the mistake about the distributor-rotation in the Bentley: The distributor in all SC's ('78-'83) runs ccw, NOT clockwise.
Fuses can be tricky. The fuse-blocks, and fuses, on the 911 have a tenency to corrode a little over time. The tabs holding the fuse need to be bent back sometimes for the correct tension.
I use dielectric grease on all electrical connections, especially during winter-storage.

Well I fly out at 6am tomorrow. We have new tires, tune-up, extra fuses and fuel relay. tools and a Bentley's. Now all we need is good weather and great tunes. I'll be posting my apres trip some time next weekend.

Thanks for the tips and wish us luck

P.S. If you hear a Flat six singing with delight through Montana, its probably us.
