Barn Find 1967 911S

Hi All,
I have a line on a 1967 911S that is all original with 50K miles. The car has been parked for the last ten years with occasional drives. The owner passed away and now the son has it and is considering selling it. He stated to me that the car does not currently run or drive. The condition according to this gentlemen is as follows: The body is very good with excellent original black paint. One small scratch on the door. The interior is not pristine but very nice. As for as is known, the engine is excellent as is the gear box, this is based on how the car drove the last time he drove it. The car was purchased in Germany from the factory in 1967 by the father. Full documents.

What is the value of the car? I know the pitfalls of a car that has been sitting, e.g. rust in the valvetrain, etc. I understand it may take several thousand dollars to get it on the road.

Your assistance is appreciated.

Thanks,
Troy

67 911 s

If it is as advertised, I'd snap it up, running or no - the prices on original 911 S cars go through the roof. Even with a full engine rebuild, you are looking at getting your money back plus some. Look for rust on the pan, rockers, battery box, etc. Get the VIN, engine # and and run it by the guys on the S registry.
Value? I'd start at $6-8K cash and see if he bites. Delicately find out how much he knows (or doesn't) about 911 S cars before you make an offer. Show up with a hauler.

Ha! Its all totally true. The man knows what the car is. But, he does want it to be put back on the road and driven.
Thanks guys. I'll keep you posted.

He will want at least $50k, especially if its a small town in W.VA, because they always know someone that knows someone that had a cousin that sold one in worse shape for twice that

Troy,
Early911SRegistry.com is what defcon is referring to. There and here are the best source for info on this potentially VERY valuable car. Depending on how much this car is as you represent it could be worth $30 or $40,000. If it really doesan't have rust and CAN be started and run again with say new tires and tuneup work...its worth a LOT of money.

Oh and if this is an April Fools joke? The Pelican Secret Police will be coming after you!

I'll have to wait and see if the price is something I can swing.

Confirm that it is a true 'S' rather than a 911 with a S engine installed afterwards by factory. I nearly bought a very similar-sounding car in that neck of the woods a few years ago.

The Oregon car went to Europe...don't recall the country.

50K?? That's hard to imagine given the description. I sure would like a follow up on this to see where it ends up.

Money is a strange thing. The number of S's is not that different than the number of the other models. It's not like they made 25. It costs the same to rebuld an S, E, T, L or what have you. They share 95% of the same parts. The 5%, cams, pistons, trim, etc, costs the same.

It 's got more HP and probably sway bars. It's a car. I think people read in too much when they read "S." This keeps up and I'll sell mine, for sure. I won't know the difference when I'm in a replacement T with all the same goodies I've put on my car.

Only my bank acc't will be different.

I would by it just to have it sitting on my drive in the summer. It represents the epitome of car design and just looking at it would keep my member in a state much appreciated by my spouse..

Markus,
That's funny!

Zeke,
I agree pretty much. I like the old 911 best of all. I've never owned a SWB car but would like to due to their lightness and nimbleness. But, I agree a 72 T with a hot motor, great brakes and suspension is super appealing to me.

Troy-
Glad to see that you are jumping back into the game. Is the car up my way, or local to you? Did you see the '67S on ebay? There is a link on the S registry site under "Cars for Sale." I'd agree that the S registry is the place to go for info on this car.

Eric, you need help buddy. It's no longer a hobby it's an addiction. I'm personally going to sacrifice myself for your greater good. I'm planning an intervention. I'll help by depriving you of some of subject of your addiction. I want one of the stock '67S targas and the '71E. I think I can round up some other concerned individuals who would be willing to put themselves out for your betterment to help with some of the others. I think we can see clear to leave you with the RGruppe, S/R, and RS spec. (mostly because you'd probably get really violent if we tried to make off with one of those)

Hi Scott,
Yes, this car kinda fell in my lap. My dad is friends with a friend of the owner (now gone, unfortunately). The car is in CA. I am waiting to get more details from the estate of the owner. This whole thing may not work out but I wanted to have an idea of what the owner might come back with as far as a price. I have got the name of a very well respected early 911 appraiser who can evaluate it for me.
I'll keep you posted.
