Kurt: Thanks for the input. I have mine centered, but just below the mirror for the same reason -- I want the rear sensor clear.

My Escort always fell down since new. I just bought the Valentine and it stays up. The main difference is the V1 mount is adjustable and allows the front of the detector to touch the windshield.

My Escort 8500's mount is also adjustable and the manual tells you to be sure the front of the unit contacts the windshield for support.

You must've had a different/older Escort.

I have both; the V1 definitely stays on better. I've always attributed it to the significantly lighter weight.

My Escort is about 2-3 years old 8500. The V1 attachement is in the center. The escort is at the front of the detector.

UPDATE

Escort is sending me some replacement suction cups, but I'm going on the Big Bear run this weekend and wanted to use my radar detector. So, at Eric's suggestion, while I was at Home Depot this afternoon I picked-up some suction cups with the little metal hooks on them. The medium sized cups were too big, so they're going back. The small ones were the exact same size as the originals. All that was required was that I remove the metal hooks and use my Dremel to cut a slot in them so they fit into the mounting bracket. 10 minutes of work (and $1.66) later, they were installed and working perfectly.

Interestingly, the new cups were more concave than the old ones. It appears that over time the original cups flattened out, and that's what caused them to let go.

Anyway, my thanks to all who made suggestions!!
