I miss my car - metering unit problems

It went to the shop last week for a service & to get the ride height lifted a little as I was sick of the front spoiler scraping driveways & the back tyres were fouling. Anyway on going to pick up the car I was excited to be returning the little mazda loan car & drive home in mine only to find out there's a problem with the fuel metering & the heat exchangers are pretty shot.

So it seemed like a good time to check the entire injection system out, replace injectors, regulators & other needed bits & spring for a new set of ssi's & a sports muffler/exhaust to go with the ssi's. Can't wait to get it back & sick of driving the mazda around. I'm also looking forward to hearing the new exhaust note

Edit - realised I forgot to ask the main question. What exactly is a metering unit (what's its job) & is a carrera 3.0 metering unit different to late 2.7 or early sc units
