Convertible top locking motors
Have a 88 cabriolet. Only one locking motor is working. I have depressed both limit switches next to each motor while also depressing the dash power top switch....with the help of the wife...only one motor...the passenger is working. Any advice on how to remove the access panel/box that houses the motors and switches? I have removed all the small black trim screws but nothing is loosening ??...

I have a cab top PDF file that has some details, which might help. I can email the pdf to you.

went through this process about one year ago exact same thing. same car in fact.its not the motor. its not the brain. Its a pretty common thing believe tor not. Drove me crazy. I think the key it the limit switch behind the passenger seat in the side panel. there should be a three millimeter clearance on the lower white limit switch. In other words it would not be fully depressed.

I figured out the leather header trim has plastic anchor studs...used a door panel removal tool. The problem was actually the brass drive gear inside the gear reduction box that the electric motor drives. This is the one above the drivers side. Opened and found the brass gear was stripped and had raised itself enough that it could no longer drive things. I diagnosed this initially since I could turn the drive/locking cam by hand...like it was stripped....oh well, I really need a brass drive gear rebuild kit but I'm sure I'll have to buy a whole new motor/gear unit. Thank you guys for the response...
