Megasquirt and 3.2 intake on non-3.2 motor?

Hello all....

Anyone using a 3.2 Carrera intake and Megasquirt on a non-3.2 motor?

My thought is to use a 3.2 intake, but remove everything but the butterfly and use a TPS. I assume I could use stock injectors and fuel rails too.

I'd like to hear more on this idea, or better yet, pics if you have done it.

Thanks
-Brad

I did exactly this and can post pics later. I am still in final assembly, so I can't comment on performance yet.

I had the intake ports on my 3.0 heads matched to the larger diameter intake runners.

I also installed a TPS, and have it connected, but will be initially using the usual MAP sensor method for initial tuning.

You need to figure out how you will mount the intake to the heads. THe Carrera intakes used 2 gaskets and a phenolic spacer. If you use those, the head studs will be too short. I used just one gasket and kept my existing studs.

I also had the intake powdercoated. It looks great, but if you do this be sure the mounting surface on the intake is taken back to flat, bare metal.

You will also need to grind a bit off the heads' injector "notch" or your injectors will be partially blocked.

THe carrera intakes have lots of spots for mounting the fuel rails.

I'll post pics soon.

Thanks!

If one were to use all of the gaskets and the spacer, swap the studs to longer ones, would the heads still need to be notched? Or would the injectors clear?

You would still have a "shelf" where the spacer is wider at the point where it meets the head. You can smooth it out easily with a dremel, but be careful to do each head exactly the same or you will have uneven flows between cylinders.

Do a search on "al lkosmal" he has several posts on his 3.2 intake on a 2.7.
