DME problem

I have a '87 Carrera coupe. Recently, the car has a starting problem.
After inspected the other related components (fuel pump, fuel filter
replaced, battery, alternator checked etc.) with my mechanic, we
narrowed down to the DME unit. Interestingly, after a slight tap on
the
harness connector (a white bracket which connected to the DME unit
under
the driver's seat), the car starts again. The problem comes on and off
for a month now and everytime it stuck, I just tap that connector and
it
starts. To me, something seems loosen inside. It is really annoying and
I would like to fix it right a way. The car's stock torsion bars and
sway bars were replaced with a stiffer one for autocross. Wonder if
this modification caused the loosen connector.
Any response would be greatly appreciated.

My methodology for electrical problems is similar. The techinical term is "percussive
maintainance". When this no longer works(or your knuckles start to bleed),it's time to clean the connectors. With luck this will do the job. After that it gets expensive.
