AC high low pressure switch

My 88 Cabriolet is supposed to have a high/low pressure switch in it. Interesting since the compressor runs when my gages indicate 0 psi.

But anyway does anyone know where it is located.

I *think* this is a worthwhile upgrade.....not stock fitment for mid-late 80's cars....

Right?

My aftermarket Giffiths switch is located near the compressor. I've heard that some may be on the receiver/dryer, which is located in the front left wheel well.

I don't think they were standard items, but I'm sure one of the a/c gurus (Jim Sims, Charlie Griffiths, etc.) will chime in to confirm.

And, I agree with Wil, if you don't have one it is a worthwhile upgrade.

The upgrade I did to my '89 930 recently included a high-low switch. It tied into to the wiring to the compressor relay in the smuggler's box. Previously my car did not have one. My understanding is the original refrigerant R12 did not require a switch but R134a operates at higher pressures so does. My understanding may be wrong, however. I'm sure one of the experts will chime in...

The reason I thought it had one was on page 97-139 of the Factory Service Manual schematics in zone L-21 there is a switch labled high pressure and low pressure switch.

I've had the car for 8 years, the AC has never worked and I am older and tired of sweating. Over the time I have owned the car I bet I have run the AC a total of 30 minutes 10 minutes at a time hoping it would cool me off, never did. Do You think I hurt anything?

911 A/C is mediocre at best. I upgraded my components and now it works as well as my other "normal" cars. A few vendors make upgrade kits. I used retroair.com located near me in Dallas. FYI, a write up of my installation project is here: http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/showthread.php?t=267009

Mine is a turbo with a different condenser but they make a kit for a non-turbo too.
