Borrow a car for a weddng in Maine August 2009?

I know this is an unusual request. I have lent my cars many times without plotting or scheming I would ever want something, now I am in the throes of trying to organize a wedding 10,000 miles away and 6 months away...

It would be special for Barb and I if we could borrow a 911 for our ceremony on August 1 2009 in Pemaquid Maine. We are flying in to LaGuardia and driving up through Boston, Portland, Freeport, etc on the way up. I'd be happy to perform or pay (if you prefer) for a tune up service before/after. I grew up in Maine on the property in this pic and thats where we are doing the ceremony and are likely to move back soon. This is where I learned to ride a bike, caught my first fish, etc. Its fertile ground. As an added heart-string-tugger...we are having the ceremony in the US because my mother cant fly anymore. We are having a second ceremony in Germany the following Saturday for her family and friends. My in-laws have provided for ample Unimog/AMG500/GT3RS access on every previous visit, if you can make it I would of course offer the same.

I would of course as always offer up timeshare at my 3-bedroom house in Sydney and unlimited use of my 1971 or 1983 supercharged track toy as a perpetual invite. Especially if you are a competent rally navigator for Targa Tasmania anytime!

I throw myself at your mercy...Barb (from Ochtrup, DE and a full-on Porsche addict and excellent co-driver and has perpetually barred me from ever selling the 1971) and I would really love to incorporate a drive and wedding pics in our special day. Coupe, Targa or Cab would be great and very special for us.

If you could spare a 911 and you live anywhere between Hoboken and Camden I would be eternally indebted (and would take care of a service, etc)

I would of course offer you either of these as collateral...

THanks,

I just cross posted your request on a thread a bunch of New England guys use to get together for drives. Maybe we can escort you along the way! Not to jump on your romantic ride with your bride to be but It may be fun with 15-20 Pcars in tow!

Hey John,

Congratulations. I am getting married August 1st as well, but I will be in Watkins Glen, NY.

Good luck on finding a 911 to use. I was thinking of asking the same type of question for anyone near the Glen. I just want to have a couple pictures with one. Mine is without an engine so it probably won't be making it to the Glen in August unless I tow it up there.

Congrats again.

If I was on the East Coast I'd offer up mine in a heartbeat. A few years back I let the neighbor kid (responsible) borrow my 911 for his HS prom. He enjoyed the car more than his date....and I think he closed the deal too

Best of luck with the wedding!

God, imagine the opportunities with that ad campaign: "Porsche 911. Helping guys get lucky for 45 years."

Hi Guys,

I am now 15 days away. I had some initial great offers but I need to try and nail things down now. I'd be indebted if I could borrow a car for a few days from say July 28 to August 2.

We're flying into NYC on July 21 and I'm working out of the office there until Saturday the 25th. We then need to get to Damariscotta, Maine the next day or the 27th. We fly out to the Nurburgring (Frankfurt) on August 3.

Any help please? You will see your car in photos, I'll sponsor a full OPC service, and full use of my toys anytime down here!

I'd actually be a bit bummed if that happened on my passenger seat...

I've got an '85 Cab that is not in the best of shape, but runs reliably and I'm not embarrassed to be seen in it. It shuttles between Boston suburbs and Harpswell ME during the summer. I'm intrigued with trying to help you make your wedding as you wish it to be. How can we get in touch to talk specifics?

I'm new at this posting stuff (I'm a long-time lurker on these boards). I guess it would have been more helpful to suggest you email me directly to see if we can arrange something: cgmanos@gmail.com

Boy, I'm tempted to offer you the Gold-Plated Porsche--it's sitting in the driveway 1+15 from La Guardia--because I wouldn't have the slightest qualms about you and your lady driving it. Hell, I let the neighbors drive it if they express interest, and a local cop acquaintance from the gym is due here tomorrow to take it out on his day off.

But it's a well-modified 26-year-old car with all the potential issues that entails, and I'd hate to ruin your wedding by stranding you in Springfield, or Lowell, or whatever.

Our daughter spent much of her year-at-leisure after college in Oz, and she more recently swam and surfed with the Sydney Surf-Rescue Squad (or maybe it was Bondi or something more specific) to do a magazine article. We're believers.

John, I really think you're better off with Manitop's apparently more reliable car. Mine really isn't set up for long-distance trips: because it has a race fuel cell, there's no spare tire, so I try to stay within flatbed range of home. I do have something called Ride-On in the tires, which is supposed to seal ordinary punctures, but it's no good if you get a sidewall leak or something major.

I have no connection to this rental place and do not know them personally but it could be a solution. Looks like you can rent a new carrera and they list a location at Newark. Congrats !

I've been holding off on posting a followup as I wanted to have all the pro photos ready but I've lost patience...at the risk of failing to do justice to the full story (which I will definately do as you cannot summarize 10 fantastic days and appreciation in a few sentences) I wanted to take a moment to recognize a member here. Chris was gracious, accomodating, thoughtful, generous and such a fantastic guy. His lending of his carrera cab to Barbara and I for our wedding was the icing on the proverbial cake. We had fantastic weather, great guests, beautiful scenery, cracking food and an overall great time. Chris' generosity allowed us to float from place to place in wonderful aircooled Porsche glory. The road from our house (where the reception was) and to the Lighthouse in undulating, clean, with wonderful views, and police-free. 20 years of ripping up and down them have them burned in my mind and to flow them back from my wedding with my new bride in Chris' ride will not be forgotten.

I only have 1 pro pic and some friends' snaps to share but here they are.

Thanks again Chris for your generosity!

Yes, you can fit all your luggage, 6 cases of wine and enough supplies for a wedding to last to 3:00 AM in a Carrera comfortably.

And driving the Nurburgring wasnt bad either.
