Question Best-looking tires for 80's 911?

Can anyone suggest a tire that looks the best on an 80's 911(like the SC)? I've seen many cars that don't look so good due to the tires. The best one I've seen is the Pirelli. Thanks if you can help,

Regards,

Kurt

Cool

They all look black!

The BFGoodrich "Trailblazer" would really stand out on any 911 because of the big white letters.

I choose tires based on performance, not looks, important with a 911.

I like the large angled tread pattern you see on the Yoko's.

These look pretty good sitting in my apartment:

smells good too!

Going to have them mounted tomorrow.

I'm really looking forward to breaking them in and upping the performance of my 911!

I spent A LOT of time researching tires, I suggest you check out

www.tirereack.com

They have pictures, specs, reviews. Decide on what you need the tires to be best at and what you want to spend.

I knew I needed an all-season tire as I drive in the winter when it's cold, but I also wanted a tire with the best possible wet and dry performance. I decided to go with the Pirelli P-Zero M+S. If you want a summer only tire there are even more options to choose from.

The favorites around here (from reading through the archives) are the Yokohama AVS ES100, Bridgestone S0-2 (3), Kumho seems to make excellent tires for the price. The Michelin and Continental seem very expensive in comparison. Avon seemed to be a good choice as well and they make a good all season tire, I also liked the BFGoodrich line of tires.

Hope that's helpful

FWIW, I've never given any thought, until recently, to a tire's appearance, just it's performance and cost.

Over the past several years, however, I've had several comments regarding the tires on my previous Vette (Michelin) & current (and forever) SC, "cool tires!, b1tchen lookin tires!", etc.
I've just kinda' shrugged them off with a polite "Yeah, thanks!" (like I designed them !

I run Yokohama AVS ES100's on my SC daily driver. They perform well, don't cost a ton & look just fine to my eye. If you can see in the pic, I have noticed that they've got a heavy rib near the bead which looks like it might help prevent curb rash on the Fuchs if I get inattentive or clumsy.

Vredestein, a highly regarded niche manufacturer of performance tires (Dutch, I believe) recently commisioned Giugiaro to do "Designer" tread patterns for a line of their tires.

That puzzles me - I used to assume that scientific/engineering concerns took precedence over the "look" of a tire's tread.

After looking through tirerack pictures of tread patterns it's really interesting to see the variety of tread patterns that tire designers use. Certainly the type pattern that is on the Yoko AVS shows up on a variety of different tires, but there are many different shaped blocks and grooves that different tiremakers use.
I know the AVS are a popular tire, but IMHO the tread pattern looks too contemporary and aggressive on a 80s 911, but I think tread pattern looks are a less consequential factor then perfromance specs. when judging what is the best tire for a car.

Over the past few years the trend has been to add a ripple texture to the sidewall, not sure but likely to cover up deficiences in the mold. Anyway, I find these areas in the tire hard to clean and I avoid buying them if at all possible.

I liked my Yoke ES100s. Good enough for the occasional DE but best suited for performance street driving with decent grip in wet.

Nice looking too imo, but like someone said-they're all black.

I'm pretty happy with these Hankook Ventus RS-2 tires.
I purchased them from Discount Tire Direct for $92 each, they're really nice and sticky with a 200 tread wear rating. These will be for mostly aggressive street, but some DE as well. I love the looks of the tread design, it's somewhat similar to the new Advans Yokohama has out.

thanks to everyone that replied. I should have been more specific and actually realized that there is another area where tires look good.
I was originally inquiring about which tire looked best from the side view. I notice some tires bulge out laterally and others look very vertical, which to me look much better. I never thought about the tread's look, although I had Toyo tires on my CLK430 which had a very unique tread pattern that really made the car look handsome and intricate from the rear and other angles. Thank you guys again!

These are Bridgestone RE730 tires that were on the car I bought last month. I know nothing but I do think they look real good.

Backwards? I haven't had directional tires before and never even thought about it. They were on the car when I got it. The arrow, at the top of the tire points forward. This isn't correct?

I've got the same bead on my Kumho ASX... my tire guy had a tough time mounting them. Funny, I thought the same - "curb rash protection"....

I was talking about the Hoosiers...

And it isn't the look of the tire, it's the taste of the oil that counts...
