Never guess who I met yesterday...

So we had our monthly local car show/meet yesterday.
Some amazing cars as always. Had been there for a while and in comes 2 beck spyders, one red, one silver.

The gentleman driving the silver one parked very near to where I was standing so I walked over and started talking to him about his car. Very friendly and very knowledgable about Porshes in general. Anyway then he says he also has a 904 in the same color.

I remember seeing one at the Mitty this year and he says yeah that was his car.

Anyway after 20 min. or so of hearing some great stories about his cars and track adventures. I realized I had not introduced myself.
I offered my hand and gave him my name and he says,
Chuck Beck, glad to meet ya.

Well I probably should have figured it out but I guess I am a little dense Anyway I was floored.

Also there was a Superperformacne GT40 there. Awesome car 525 hp and 2300 lbs. Amazing car.
So I am talking to Chuck about this car and it turns out Superperformance is building his 904 starting within the year.

The GT40 is so close to the original they were allowed to serial numbers starting after the last ones originally made.
Pretty impressive.
I did not bring my camera to the meet but there were tons of cameras there so I am sure some pics will turn up.

Jerry,
I used to play with the Porsche Owners Club, (POC), before I moved to New Mexico.
Chuck would regularly come out with one of his creations and storm around the track.
His son Randy Beck is a racer of some distinction with the POC.
Both talented and interesting people.

Yes he told me of his son who also has a 904 with a 3.8.
How much fun would that be?

I think if you floor it in 2nd it pulls hard enough to rip whatever sun dress the cute girl in the passenger seat is wearing right off.

I'm sure that is enough green changes hands you can use any dang serial number you like.

When we were building our spydie, we purchased a barely sat in second hand interior from Chuck Beck. Absolutely charming gentleman and a noteable enthusiast.

Man, oh man do we want to build a 904.... Thanks for the lead with Beck/Superperformance.

90% of the parts are interchangable so I don't think it is just money that justifies this. Not only that, seeing and hearing one in person, you realize the build quality is there.

It really is an impressive car. Of course I just love cars so what can I say.

Don,

What time were you there at? When I arrived at 4pm things were in full swing.

Jerry,
You forgot to mention Patrick's silver 911. One of the most impressive cars at the show. Just a nice driver version of one of our cars - with over 225,000 miles on it. Show that odometer to our Italian friends and see what they think of it!

Yes was remiss in not mentioning this. For all you SC guys out there it was a 78.

He said it didn't really use much oil either.

Oh and Chris, Erin the serverbabe was asking were that handsome guy with Turbo went.

You wish

What were the GT40 replicas selling for north of $100K? Actually being that close a replica is a downside IIRC anyone over 5'8" could barely fit.

Eric I am not sure but I think one of the superperformance guys said around 110k. I don't know if that was with the drivetrain or not.

As far as the driver height, the guy that got out of it was at least 6'2" and 220 lbs if not more.

I don't think he had any problem.

All this and the darned thing even had A/C.

Geez Don,
the thing wasn't even set to start until 4 pm. You gotta hang around next time.

Last pricing on a painted and trimmed roller- just add motor and trans - was $65k for the GT40
a decent motor and trans package will cost 15k

I was watching an auction on TLC this weekend (had it Tivo'd so i dont know the original date) but they had an all original GT40 that went for like 1.3 mill. maybe more but I cant remember. They also had some really rare F-cars. It was pretty cool.

Dave that would suprise me if the Superformance was that cheap, they are always way over the top on everything.

Amazing they have it set up for someone that big, Boy I would love to have one.
