Earls oil coolers
Anyone have any luck with adapting an Earl oil cooler as a reploacement for the front tuba loop ? These are a plate type cooler (like the stock)not the tube type which are much better quality and efficency. Their is a racing Porsche shop in the L.A. area somewhere that has made the 30mm fittings to adapt the cooler . By the way this cooler retails for 280.00.

I have done a few, the best way is to find a source for a 30mm to -12AN fitting. Earls coolers are either -10 or -12. Use the -12. It has higher flow.
My old source for the adapters is now out of business. My last one I cut the double male fitting (coming out of the block) in half and welded a -12 AN fitting on it. Did the same for the one coming out of the oil tank. I also recommend that you use a inline Mocal oil thermostat. It allows oil and the engine to get to operating temp then opens and sends warm oil to the cooler. Quicker warm up times, prevents cold oil from blowing up the cooler, prevents sludge build up from too low oil temps. I would also use braided line with at least 3/4 inch ID. I have some extra parts if needed and extra ideas. Email if needed. |
