starter p-roblems

Hi folks,i would like to now if it is very difficult to change your own starter in a 911 turbo 1988 model.Today i went to start my car i all i got was the starter spinning but no engagement.I have some mechanical skills but i am not very experienced working on this car.I have changed maqny starters before but they were always on domestic models. Also is there a good source of information to get a step by step approach to this proceedure?
THANKS

Did it on my 87 Carrera.
You need to drop the rear of the engine to get at the screw in the other side of the starter. Sway bar, heater duct, tranny support, shift rod and electrics to the starter also must be moved. You need to be quite sure that the jack will hold as set.Not hi tech though. The Porsche manual has a detailed instruction. Ned

In my case, the starter pinion was no fully engaging the ring gear and made a nasty noise. Replaced the solenoid and that fixed it. Since your starter is spinning, you may have a similar problem. You might try tapping it but access is not good. Ned
