Installing SSI exhaust on 1981 911
I need some advice from 911 owners who have successfully removed the complete original exhaust system from a similiar vintage 911 as mine and installed SSI stainless steel heat exchangers (headers), stainless steel twin outlet muffler and the accompanying necessary hardware (new oil line(s) and mods to heater flap units. Has anyone done this job in their own driveway? What is the best and safest way to remove the heat exchanger fasteners? Are broken studs an inevitable occurrence for 911s this old (18 years)? The exhaust system on my car is totally original and as far as I can ascertain, has never been changed. Can anyone tell me exactly what parts I will need to complete the job?..., i.e. what oil line has to be replaced?, do special fabricated parts have to be made up to attach the SSI heater outlet tubes to the heater flapper valves? Are there other components that must be moved or modified? Does Pelican sell a complete kit including all hardware necessary to do this job? Finally, what if any changes are necessary to the injection system in order to match the freer flowing exhaust? Sorry for the long question but I want to do this work myself and don't want any surprises.
