clacking sound

Car runs like a top. Just had valve adjustment done (200miles ago).

This a.m. I started it in the cold (30 degrees) and within a few seconds of initial startup I began to hear a rattle or clacking sound from engine compartment. Thought is was due to cold weather and did not have time to investigate.

long and short of it is that even when warm i am hearing it. Can't quite figure out where it is coming from but I hear it louder from on top of engine rather than under. and i would swear it was coming from injection unit. listened to both cylinder sides and cant seem to decide if it is from there.

hard to tell without helper but does rattle speed appears to increase when i give more gas. finally, performance does not seem to be affected. Sound can be heard from inside car and is loud enough outside w engine deck closed.

will call mechanic tomorrow but want opinions.

Chris

Timing chain tensioner? I wouldn't run it until you figure it out.

I considered that but that i would hear more toward rear of engine (rear of car) and underneath. rather, i hear more above engine and further in (toward front of car)

You may check your valve clearances just to make sure that a rocker arm pin is not loose.

They might have left a adjuster nut loose and the valve to rocker has a lot of play. If it's loose you want to correct it before it falls off and jams something or goes down the oil return tube and spend the rest of it's life against the oil pickup screen until you remove the cover or rebuild the engine.
