How to spin a tiptronic?
I know the both-feet-in rule for manual tranny cars. But what do you do with a tiptronic? I'm thinking of taking my 330i to a high perf. driving clinic, just to see what it can do. I'm sure some folks must track their tip Porsches. How do you avoid tranny damage in a spin with no clutch? Do you just throw it into neutral as soon as the spin becomes imminent?

I see your point. But, neutral might not be the best. Some parts of the trans will spin backwards as if you were towing the car on two wheels backwards. Albeit, that won't be for long time in a spin. My thoughts (guess, really) would be to use the brakes, as in the both feet in. When the car loops, skid it, or in your case, the anti locks will kick in (they should going backwards in my thinking) preventing flat spots.
I remember watching Dale Earnhardt when he spun. Just as soon as the car got sideways, he locked 'em up every time. Seem to soften most of his crashes; all but the last one. ![]() |

But even mashing the brakes and having the ABS kick in will cause the wheels to spin in reverse, no? That's what I'm worried about. I don't care about flatspotting my tires as much as beating up the tranny.
