gauge faces
A friend of mine wants white face gauges for his 79SC. There are a number of overlay kits on the market. all priced around $150. These involve removing the gauge, popping the cover off, and then removing the needle to install the gauge overlay. Anybody out there ever tried this? Are special skills and tools involved, or is this within the ability of the home mechanic?
Also, North Hollywood speedometer offers gauge repaint for around $300. Is it worth the extra money? |

Go to the tech section on the Pelican Parts site and you will find a tech article on refurbishing 911 gauges. The article explains how to remove the gauge faces. (not an easy task)

The article mentioned above was helpful. but itexplains how to remove the clear outer face, not the inner face with numerals. The article mentions that you should not remove the inner face or needle of the speedometer, or you will have to recalibrate. Since this article is in reference to a mechanical 914 gauge, I wonder if the same is true for the electric 911SC speedo? Any ideas ?

I have the North Hollywood upgrade done. Well worth it, looks very professional and have had many compliments. You can try to do it yourself but I always ended up messing up the bezel rings. Let the pros do it. Tom and Wayne might also have some recomendations.

Hi there. You can do it yourself, but it is difficult. The bezel rings do indeed get messed up too if you don't do it right.
We offer this service too. For more information and current pricing, please give Tom a call at 1-888-280-7799. Thanks, Wayne |
