Help getting tires removed from some Fuch's..nobody will do it here.

I called three different tire shops to try and get some old tires removed from some wheels I sold. I asked specifically if it could be done without damaging the wheel's and none of them would gaurantee that. Two told me there's too much liability to do this on such a small profit transaction. If I were buying tires they would go ahead and assume that risk of possible damage, but not just to remove some tires.

So how do folk's get this done??

Check the shops that install the expensive "bling" wheels, they cost more than Fuchs and those guys won't be afraid of them. A local shop does mine and they always put a rubber "pad" where the wheel contacts the machine so there aren't any scratches...

There has to be a shop somewhere that would do this unless you live in the sticks. I brought my fuchs that are powder coated all black and they were not scratched at all. I also brought some rear wide-ass viper wheels in and had 35 series installed at another shop and they came out great as well. The key is to watch them, and tell the installer that he will get a little extra cash for his efforts.

Has to be a place in KC - if you are out in the boonies I could see it.

Sounds like local Porsche owners have terrorized the business community pretty good tho...

Well, I'm sure someplace will do it..just never imagined it would be such a pain to get some tire's off. I'll make some call's tomorrow to some upscale wheel places and see how that goes.

Let's face it, almost all new cars have bling wheels and almost every tire shop has a "touchless" machine. I wouldn't call ahead and tell them it's a Porsche. Just walk in and ask for the tire to be removed. Most shops here will do it for free without even a second look.

In Europe...almost everyone has a "touchless" machine...no wonder designs like the Fuchs ( without a small "lip" edge) are in -vogue...

Around here...in the Buffalo, NY area...I haven't been able to find a touchless machine. The best compromise found is the machine that has a plastic sleeve attached. Still rubs ....

certified installers might indicate a shop that takes certain "care" in mounting ( otherwise losing Tirerack endorsement)...but...AFAIK...does not gurantee use of a touchless machine....

There is a tire franchise here called Butler Tires that kicks ass on installation. I gave dude a 12 pack once when I showed up late near closing time. I've had excellent service there.

I also have a Firestone down the road from here where the kid is a car guy. He has a BMW he is restoring and was admiring the 911. I let him take car for a spin with me in the passenger seat. I think that more than paid for the care he gave my rims. Got balance for free with me bringing in Toyos R1s for installation.

I am also in KC and will need to have some mounted later this year after I get them Al Reed'ed. Very interested in what you find out. Have you tried Weld Wheel?

I've gone to a used tire store and offered to let them have the tires for free if they remove them.

I was back on the road with my empty wheels in less than five minutes.
