Love My 88, Hate My Power Top

First let me say hello, I am new to the forum but have been surfing the Pelican Parts Forums for a number of years.

Well, I have had my 88 for about 10 years, I love the car and will never get rid of it. Last year I started having problems with the top, the issue was that the red light on the dash started coming on then it would stay on. The top worked fine so I just ignored it.

About 6 months ago, the top began to give me additional problems. It started with the front motors. The right would disengage and the left would not...then they would work. Finally last month after getting the motors to disengage the top stopped opening all together and would not retract.

I have read the posts and this is what I have done so far...

Last week, I converted the top to manual and reset the front motors by rotating the locking screw counter clockwise (found this on a post some where). This worked for a few days then the motors only wanted to unlock not lock again.

I checked the brain, no cracks, no issues with sautering of wires.

I checked the fuses, no problem...but someone mentioned a 25 amp fuse, is there one that I am missing?

At this point, I have pulled the top back up and used a electric screwdriver to lock down the top so that I can be driven...we live in Oregon so keeping it down doesn't make sense even in the summer.

I am hoping that I have overlooked something like maybe it is as simple as the power switch under the steering wheel might have gone out. What would I need to check the electrical components?

I am at a point after reading a number of posts that I just want to convert it to a manual top, does any have step by step instructions on how to do this with the front motors in place? Any help would be appreciated.

On another note, I found this link to a factory training video about the convertible top for a 88 Porsche...a good resource to have.

Thanks for the help, Andrew
